Why Choose AssetTrakker Over Other Software?
Software Purchasing Concerns
Oddly enough the concerns of first time purchasers of software are different from those purchasing software to replace existing, similar, software.
General Purchasing Criteria
- Price of software
- Ease of implementation of new system
- Ease of use
- Software's ability to fit the business
- Functionality of software
- Growth Potential software can handle
How good is AssetTrakker
Price - Our price is certainly good, our business is built on providing maximum value.
Ease of implementation of new system - Some competing software is easier to install, as no .NET framework would be required. Simpler systems not incorporating scanners and with a limited customization feature would of course be easier than ours to implement. Our choice of the free but top-level Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express database component does take up more disk space than software using a simpler less secure database.
Ease of Use - Once installed and configured our software will be as easy or easier to use than other complete asset management software.
Software's ability to fit the business - Here our customization features really shine and provides for growth.
Functionality of Software - Again our functionality is as good as or better and the 'Grid' layout easier to understand by most users.
Growth potential of the software - A strong feature of ours is how much the program can be customized by end user and features called upon even years later.
Why choose AssetTrakker
AssetTrakker does not force you to fit into the same mould as everyone else. This means some extra thinking and work on your part. No programming is required but the results look like that is what you have done. By the time you have set up AssetTrakker it will be the equivalent of a $3000+ custom program. Point out that $2,700 value you've provided your business or organization to your boss!
What we don't provide and why.
There is no depreciation feature in AssetTrakker because to do this properly would mean only a qualified accountant could work with it. Some competitors say 'depreciation' but offer only straight-line method that is of questionable value.
There is not a separate 'reporting' module, such as crystal reports. This is because using such reporting modules is difficult and requires a lot of training. AssetTrakker obtains similar results by using a WYSIWYG 'what you see is what you get' print function with a number of formatting features.
You should know ...
The AssetTrakker user manual, embedded into the program and obtained under the 'Help' menu item shows all the various controls and features you use to customize AssetTrakker. There is a lot to explain and it helps if you have a good idea of what you personally want to accomplish. Knowing what you want will allow you to better understand how the software features and controls can work for you. Everything about this software is based upon the premise that you decide and arrange a tracking and management system right for your business or organization. This means you have to think about what you want and then arrange elements of the software to obtain your desires.
Understanding the overall concept of AssetTrakker - How the pieces fit together
The basic presentation of information in AssetTrakker is a 'grid' or spreadsheet format that we refer to as a 'view'. You can rearrange a 'grid view' and then name and save this configuration for recall, to view your asset information in a different manner. Some may end up developing five or more views and others just one. Information seen on any 'grid view' can be edited right on the grid window; you do not have to switch to some other window. Views are a powerful aid to printing out reports and you can save one or more 'report views', named by you for ease in calling up.
Each 'grid' row has all the information about a specific asset. Each cell or data field in a 'row', with information about the asset, is also part of a column that is headed with the name for that particular asset quality. Your job starts here as you have to set-up or choose the column headings/data fields that are necessary for your own specific asset tracking requirements. This is a basic building block of your software and we have provided some tools to assist you.
Column heading/data field worksheets are in our manual as an addendum, and will be downloadable from our website. In addition you may wish to refer to pages in the user manual where a detailed examination of data fields and their possible uses is made.
We recommend you download and install our free trial version of AssetTrakker from here and run the program using the 'template' and sample data we include. Keep in mind that this 'trial database and configuration template' is very general and includes things you may not want. It is also possible some other items are not in the test configuration that you will have to add or enable. Some time spent working with the actual program will tell you if it's right for you.
Incorporated in AssetTrakker is the ability to save (and name) a 'template' currently being used and replace it with another 'template' of completely different configuration. This is an extremely powerful feature and we will be offering a number of different configuration 'templates' on our website for downloading. This could save you time by allowing you to start configuring from a 'template' as close as possible to what you want in your program.
Should you purchase and use a Microvision Scanner with AssetTrakker?
You do not have to purchase a barcode scanner to use AssetTrakker! However ...
We spent a great deal of time and expense to fully implement scanner use and think you will save time (money) with one. It makes doing an annual audit of assets easier and faster. The scanner's 'batch' memory capability is used also to aid in search and edit functions. For some special applications such as 'tool tracking' the scanner is invaluable.
This software would never have been developed, even though our customers repeatedly asked for it, without Microvision introduction of their batch scanner. Until then the only choice was to use an expensive scanner that, we felt, priced an asset management solution too high. Our business is based upon providing the highest possible value for customers and the scanner plays a major part in delivering this value.
